The Devon Xtreme are proud to announce the newest addition to the team, forward Phoenix Flett.
Flett is making the move up to Junior A following his 2023-24 season with the U18 AAA Okotoks Oilers, where in 31 games he had 15 points.
He spoke over the phone about his recent signing in Devon saying, “I’m excited for the opportunity to play under Kelly Buchberger (Xtreme Head Coach & GM) and make the move to junior hockey. I want Devon to be a tough team to play against and really make a statement in our first season in the AJHL.”
For the new Xtreme fans at home Flett explained himself as a player on the ice stating, “I’m a super hard working forward that loves to be aggressive, I’m not afraid to get in people faces but also love helping out the team in anyway I can.
Since making the jump from U18 to Junior A Flett spoke about what he needs to do to have a successful transition saying, “It’s a super fast and competitive league. Certainly I’ll need to be faster and stronger, to play with those older guys you need to be ready for anything.”
Moving the topic from on ice to off the ice, Flett feels although coming in as a young player it’s still important to make an impact in the room mentioning, “You don’t want to act like a young guy, you want to be just as much of a locker room presence as every older guy. You don’t want to be a shell, you want to talk just like anybody else would.”
